Day 3

Enjoy two full days of activities at Tubu Tree Camp.

Morning and afternoon game drives on Hunda Island reveal the spectacular wildlife here where leopard and other big game often feature. Night drives with spotlights allow you to find those nocturnal animals you wouldn’t see during normal daytime drives. Porcupine, aardwolf, serval, large spotted genet and lesser bushbaby are just some of these.

There is no better way of enjoying the crystal-clear waters of the Delta and its wildlife than by traditional mokoro (dugout canoe), which reveal the smaller fascinating critters and striking waterbirds of the region. Water-level dependent, excursions in our boat allow for good game viewing in the channels further away from camp, often yielding fabulous sightings of hippo and crocodile and maybe even the elusive sitatunga.

There are two hides in the area, one of which is located about 20 minutes from camp. This hide can be transformed into a Star Bed for sleep-outs for a maximum of four people at a time (must be requested in advance).

Fishing with a limited supply of basic equipment is on offer seasonally on a catch-and-release basis.

The Tubu area is a must for bird enthusiasts, with large concentrations of wattled crane, as well as slaty egret, rosy-throated longclaw and African skimmer. In contrast, the dryer Hunda Island sports crimson-breasted shrike and Meyer’s parrot.

Trips in 12-seater and 7-seater boats in the waterways to the east of camp allow for good game viewing in the channels further away.

Land-based game drives are offered when the inundation levels are lower, typically in the summer months. These drives reveal the likes of elephant, zebra and other plains game, and potentially the predators of the region. Our open 4×4 Land Rovers, .

Day 8

Enjoy two full days of game viewing activities at Duma Tau Camp. With incredible habitat diversity, Linyanti is a haven for wildlife, on land and water. Game viewing and river excursions are on top of the agenda here.

Morning and afternoon game drives in open 4 x 4 Land Rovers reveal the rich wildlife of the area where predators and elephant are often the highlight. Plains game and diverse birdlife also offer fantastic sightings. While night drives with spotlights allow you to find those nocturnal animals you wouldn’t see during the day. These often include lesser bushbaby, spring hare, aardwolf, serval, large spotted genet and, if you are extremely lucky, the elusive pangolin!

Nature walks with skilled, armed guides are wonderful ways of getting close to nature and observing the smaller things you miss when traveling by vehicle. (depending on availability of a qualified guide)

There are a number of platforms and hides from which to view and photograph animals and birds. One of the best hides is right at the source of the Savute Channel, from which many species of game and birdlife can be seen.

Water levels permitting, explore the Linyanti River by boat or barge, the latter perfect for picnics or sundowners or searching out those elusive birds so prevalent in the channels.

Seasonal fishing is permitted on a catch-and-release basis. The camp has a small stock of basic rods and reels.

Birding is outstanding here, from Okavango specials to mopane woodland species. The Savute Channel is famous for its high concentration of eagles and raptors; this area is internationally recognised as an IBA (Important Bird Area).
