Enjoy one full day of activities at Lemala Mpingo Ridge.

Tarangire is famed for its large concentrations of elephant and spectacular baobabs of every shape and color. The river is the park’s lifeline and attracts much of the game to its banks. You may also find some of the many leopard that rest by day in the shady trees. The park is also home to kudu with their immense spiral horns, and oryx with their equally lengthy rapier horns. These shy, show-stopping antelope are common in Tarangire, where Sanctuary Retreats’ expert driver-guides can get visitors close to the herds without disturbing them. The low volume of visitors to the park offers a truly unique and private experience and our customized open safari vehicles offer unobstructed viewing and great photography opportunities.

Day 5

After breakfast, descend into the crater for full day game viewing with packed lunch. Here you can see a spectacular concentration of wildlife, including the big five. Drive across the dense forest and near the soda lake and enjoy viewing a variety of bird life. Ascend to the lodge from the 2,000 ft. deep crater. This magnificent natural amphitheater is said to have the largest concentration of animals in all of Africa, including a high density of lions and thousands of flamingos. The ever-changing mood of this great amphitheater will hold your attention every second. Formed by the collapsed cone of a Great Rift Valley volcano some three million years ago, the Ngorongoro Crater is a spectacular natural sanctuary to more than 30,000 animals. More than 350 species of birds have been recorded. Its steep, unbroken rim plunges 2,000 feet to a 102 square mile floor. It is known as the Eighth Wonder of the World. Its vastness and beauty are truly overwhelming. Many scientists suggest that before its eruption, this volcano was larger than Mt. Kilimanjaro. The crater contains a variety of ecosystems and an astounding concentration of birds and animals. Encounter massive herds of zebra, wildebeest, and gazelles. This area affords an opportunity to spot the Big Five, which includes African elephant, leopard, the black-mane lion, buffalo, and the rare black rhinoceros.

Day 7 – 9

Enjoy three full days of activities at Lemala Nanyuki.

The Serengeti National Park is possibly the best-known wildlife sanctuary in the world, unequaled for its natural beauty and ecological value. It lies between the shores of Lake Victoria in the west, Lake Eyasi in the south, and the Great Rift Valley to the east. The name Serengeti is derived from the Maasai word siringet meaning ‘extended area’; a fitting title for a place that features far-reaching grassy plains tinged with the twisted shadows of acacia trees and dotted with kopjes of giant granite boulders. With more than two million wildebeest, half a million Thomson’s gazelle, and a quarter of a million zebra, it supports the greatest concentration of plains game in Africa, and for this it was granted the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978.

The park covers an area of 14,763-sq-km, but it is the center of the much larger Serengeti Ecosystem – a region that encompasses approximately 30,000-sq-km and is a combination of the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Kenya’s Maasai Mara and several smaller game reserves. The system protects the annual wildebeest migration; so called because the majority of hooved animals on this astonishing journey are wildebeest, but they are joined in equally staggering numbers by zebra and gazelle. These animals embark on a roughly 1000-km-long circular trek through unfenced Tanzania and Kenya in search of seasonal pasture and water and are hotly pursued by their predators. It is a phenomenal sight, but the Serengeti also offers rewarding year-round, high-density game viewing, which includes significant large predator-prey interactions.
