Full Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1
Upon arrival into Kilimanjaro, you will be met by an Alluring Africa representative who will help you complete immigration and customs formalities, collect your baggage and proceed to the Arrivals Hall. Here you will be met by an Alluring Africa representative for your private road transfer to Legendary Lodge, where you will stay for one night.
Day 2
At a time to be advised: After an early breakfast, you will be collected from your hotel by an Alluring Africa representative for your private road transfer to the Arusha Airport for your charter flight to the Kuro Airstrip.
Upon arrival, you will be collected by a Chem Chem representative and enjoy a game drive through Tarangire National Park, and a private picnic lunch, en route to Little Chem Chem, where you will stay for two nights.
Day 3
Explore the game-rich environment of the breath-taking Tarangire National Park from the comfort of an open 4×4. Choose either a full- or half-day excursion which includes a picnic breakfast or lunch at a private site. Expect vast elephant herds and huge baobabs.
Discover the wilderness through the eyes of those who have lived it and breathed it for centuries: the Maasai. A warrior will walk with you and a field guide – a rare opportunity to learn how this local population has survived by living in harmony with wild animals for hundreds of years.
The sight of thousands of rose-coloured flamingos at sunrise is a matchless, magnificent sight. Their presence cannot be guaranteed, but if they arrive, this is a must-do. Wade slowly towards them in rubber boots or watch from the shore in a safari vehicle with a coffee and snacks.
Expand your cultural horizons and meet Choroko, Maasai chief, and some of his wives; Sindani, Seeki, Nebulu and Nemburis. Enjoy an authentic experience sharing stories and learning about the Maasai culture.
You have the option of a balloon safari, for an additional charge. Up before dawn for this one… Glide over the tops of ancient baobab trees as the sun rises, glinting off elephant herds, antelope, zebra, lion. Watch in silence as the world wakes up below you and savour sights never seen before. Enjoy a rustic bush-breakfast after the hour-long flight.
Let your senses slip into sheer relaxation mode with our small but sumptuous range of indulgent body massages. Drift away into a slumber as you are gently pampered in serene surrounds. And you can get yourself back into top-to-toe shape with a manicure or pedicure.
Relax on the tranquil shores of Lake Manyara with a drink in hand after the day’s excitement of exploring the bush. Gather your thoughts as you watch the sun set, the first stars appear and the birds come home to roost.
Dine in a different location each night. From where to have dinner to whom you share it with, the choice is yours. The evening can be as private as you like or more convivial with other guests. Feel the whisper of the evening breeze as you eat beneath the stars. If you imagine, it we can do it.
Day 4
After breakfast and your morning game drive you will transfer from Little Chem Chem to Chem Chem Lodge, where you will stay for two nights.
Day 5
Enjoy one full day of game viewing activities at Chem Chem Lodge.
Day 6
After your morning game drive and breakfast you will be collected from your lodge for your private road transfer to the Kuro Airstrip for your charter flight to Kogatende. On arrival, you will be met by a Mkombe House representative for your private road transfer to Mkombe’s House Lamai where you will spend the next four nights.
Day 7 – 9
Enjoy three full days of game experiences at your camp all to yourself!
We know from experience that if you’re traveling with your family, the ability to plan your days around their specific needs is all-important for everyone’s enjoyment. That’s why Mkombe’s House has a private guide, with whom you can discuss the options and decide what you’d like to do each day.
Game drives are the main focus, but it’s also possible to go out on walks (children over 12yrs only), enjoy picnic breakfasts or lunches and sundowners on the rocks. Youngsters often enjoy clambering around on the rocks around the camps in search of lizards, hyrax and other harmless creatures.
And then of course there’s the option of spending time in your own home in the bush, reading in a shady spot with a great view, or having the odd dip in the pool.
Day 10
After breakfast and a morning activity, you will be transferred to the airstrip for the scheduled charter flight to Tarime Airstrip. From here you will be transferred by airline shuttle, across the Isebenia Border to the Migori Airstrip. You will be required to clear immigration formalities en route. The facilities at the border post are rustic, and local people selling their wares can be overwhelming, so stay close to the airline representatives, and be aware of your surroundings. At Migori Airport you will board your flight to Olare Orok Airstrip. On arrival, you will be met by an Alluring Africa representative for your transfer to Mara Plains Camp where you will stay for four nights.
Arrive in time for lunch and an afternoon activity.
Day 11 – 13
Enjoy three full days of game viewing activities at Mara Plains Camp.
If a camp’s success lies in its details, then Mara Plains Camp is truly blessed, located as it is on a bend in the Ntiakitiak River in the heart of the 35,000-acre Olare Motorogi Conservancy which abuts Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve to its south. One of only five camps on the Olare Motorogi Conservancy, guests at Mara Plains have unrivaled access to more than 100,000 acres of exclusive, low-vehicle density tourism land, home to extensive areas of important habitat for a vast number of wildlife species, while still having unfettered access to the Maasai Mara’s additional 375,000 acres.
Experiences: Early morning, late afternoon and night game drives in an open, 4×4 vehicle, and local village visits, hot air balloon safaris.
Day 14
After breakfast and a morning activity, you will be transferred to the Mara Serena Airstrip for your charter flight to Segera Retreat where you will stay for four nights.
Arrive in time for lunch and an afternoon activity.
Day 15 – 17
Enjoy three full days of game viewing activities at Segera.
Segera proves that luxury can be sustainable. Its ecologically sound practices pro-actively enhance comfort, with vast solar installations providing all energy and heating dramatic outdoor baths, recycled and captured rain water feeding the verdant gardens and homegrown vegetables pulled fresh from the earth enriching daily menus. Keeping vital migration routes open to the surrounding environments, sustainable thinking grows in the gardens of nearby schools and has a powerful effect on the lives of the communities that live alongside Segera Ranch and Retreat. Over the last decade what started as degraded land was literally brought to life; Segera is a catalyst for change.
Moving beyond the luxurious setting of your Villa and the Retreat, Segera is a beautiful African wilderness offering a whole world of experiences and memories – a classic safari adventure with exhilarating wildlife sightings and sceneries. In a safari experience reminiscent of ‘Out of Africa’, visitors to Segera enjoy a wide range of personalized activities in a landscape diverse with savannah grasslands, waterfalls, rivers and woodlands. Further afield, Segera also arranges excursions to local communities, bustling markets and various Segera-supported community projects.
Segera is centrally positioned in the heart of Laikipia, one of Africa’s – and the world’s – most exciting safari destinations, boasting the second highest density of wildlife in Kenya. During your safari on Segera, you can expect to see herds of elephant and buffalo, predators such as lion, leopard or cheetah, plains game including multiple species of antelope and zebra, important populations of Reticulated giraffe, Lelwel’s hartebeest and sometimes our protected endangered species of Grevy’s zebra, Patas monkey and African Wild Dog.
Oscar-winning movie ‘Out of Africa’ conjures images of the quintessential African setting: breathtaking savannah plains, bountiful wildlife and snapshots of Kenya’s rich tribal cultures. At the center of all of this, one remembers a yellow biplane which soared above Kenya’s dramatic landscapes, rousing flamingoes and becoming one of the most recognized features of Denys Finch Hatton (Robert Redford) and Karen Blixen (Meryl Streep)’s passionate romance, a performance that captured viewers’ imaginations all over the world.
In 2013, G-AAMY was sold at a Paris auction to Jochen Zeitz, the owner of Segera and Founder of the Zeitz Foundation, who had dreamed it should return home to Africa. Fitted with a new engine and delicately re-assembled at Segera, G-AAMY was given a new lease of life and once again soars over Kenya’s scenic landscapes. (additional cost)
People matter; it’s the right of every person to have their basic needs met and enhancing the wellbeing of communities is a fundamental obligation of all. Segera collaborates closely with its fascinating local communities: The Samburu, Maasai, Turkana and Borana are Kenyan pastoralists with unique cultural identities that have been celebrated for centuries. As a Long Run Destination, Segera supports activities that enhance the wellbeing of all communities who have a socio-economic relationship with them. Activities in this dimension address local employment, fair working conditions, local and regional relations, social ventures and accountability, capacity building and support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), among others.
As a Satellite of the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) in Cape Town, Segera Retreat liberally displays the striking, relevant and at times culturally and socially challenging artworks of the Zeitz Collection, an extraordinary representation of contemporary art from Africa and its Diaspora.
At Segera we encourage and support a culture of wellness that extends to the soil, the environment, the communities that surround us, and to you—mind, body and soul. Our Wellness Centre offers a variety of luxurious holistic treatments and therapies that nourish your entire being.
Day 18
After breakfast and a morning activity, you will take your private charter flight to Nairobi. From here you will be collected by an Alluring Africa representative and transferred to Hemingways Nairobi for your Day Room.
