Overall, crime rates are very low along all routes in Namibia.  However, it’s always better to be safe than sorry, and we recommend the following tips to avoid theft:

  • Theft is only concentrated around towns – there is little need to worry in rural areas
  • If you are in a populated area and leaving your car, take all valuables with you (or at least make sure they’re out of sight), and lock all doors and windows
  • If you want to stop and walk around a town along the way, it’s best to park at a gas station because they will have 24 hour security cameras
  • While it’s not an uncommon practice, we don’t recommend picking up hitchhikers in Namibia
