Lucas Mbangu
Guest Liaison Specialist
Lucas joined ATI in May 2024, although this is not his first time as part of the ATI team. Lucas’ first ATI journey began in 2016 when he was responsible for our transfers fleet, worked as a chauffeur driver and assisted with guided tours during high season. Lucas comes from the northeastern part of the country where he completed his high school before heading down to the southern part of the country to visit his uncle in the small historic town of Maltahohe. One fine day, Lucas’ uncle took him to Sossusvlei for the weekend. Here, he witnessed the magical scenery and dramatic shapes of the sand dunes in the desert. By chance, he saw a hot air balloon in the sky for the first time. This changed his entire thoughts, and Lucas ended up working for Namib Sky where he flew many times for free, and his love for nature began!
As years were rolling, Lucas worked for different lodges and held various positions from ranger at one of the &Beyond lodges to senior guide at Wolwedans where he worked himself up to chief guide. A few years later, he moved to Windhoek to further his studies while working for ATI. Lucas currently holds a degree in Business Management, and various certificates in customer service and leadership.
He is now the Client Liaison Specialist, responsible for the meet and greets of all ATI’s clients, giving them all the necessary information about their holiday before they head off to explore our beautiful country. While this is his full-time job, Lucas is also a certified Namibian Police officer; in his free time he works in the charge office and joins ground operations, including roadblocks, so ensuring that our city and country at large is one of the safest places in the world.
Lucas says:
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be? Mmmmmm I would go for a meat pie – indirectly to say I love meat.
What are your ‘must have’ travel items? Sunglasses, hat, cell phone, water bottle, a pen and notebook.
What is your favourite Namibian destination and why? Sossusvlei for sure; stunning sand dunes, paint-like landscape and vast spaces, also, I grew up there so it will always be special.
What is your quote to live by? Everyone you will ever meet knows something you don’t.
