Enricus Booysen
Chauffeur Driver
Enricus comes from the small town of Gibeon, in southern Namibia, near the Fish River – a region famed for being where the first meteorites fell, and for being the birthplace of Kaptein Hendrik Witbooi, whose legacy is honoured on the larger Namibian banknotes.
His journey into tourism began almost by chance. A friend called him one day, asking if he could help out as an extra driver for a guided safari starting in Upington and ending in Okonjima. From that first trip, Enricus was hooked, and he hasn’t looked back since.
What Enricus loves most about his job is the opportunity to meet new people and experience different personalities, all while traveling across the vast and diverse terrain of Namibia.
Enricus says:
What is your favourite Namibian destination and why? My favorite place will always be where I was born – Gibeon. The sunsets and sunrises there are simply magical, especially when the river is full and flowing. It’s where I caught my first fish, a catfish, and where I learned how to swim. Gibeon holds a special place in my heart.
A quote to live by? “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” It’s a reminder that there’s always more beneath the surface.
What is your favourite book and/or movie? My favorite book is “The Art of War,” and my favorite movie is “A Bronx Tale.” It’s a fascinating depiction of Italian culture and the freedom movement. Trust me, just watch it.
Why should people visit Namibia? Namibia offers something different from the rest of Africa. If you’re looking for a complete trip with stunning scenery, incredible photography opportunities, unique cultures, and diverse wildlife, Namibia has it all.
What meal could you eat every day? Beef stew and porridge—nothing beats a good plate of pap en vleis.
What are your ‘must-have’ travel items? Water, sunglasses, and a hat. It can get hot out here, so staying hydrated and protected from the sun is essential.
