The old pop song is all about ‘one night in Bangkok’, but you’ll need more time than that to enjoy the many different aspects of this wonderful Asian city, which seems to have as many skyscrapers as Buddhist temples.The trick to understanding Bangkok is to take advantage of the modern elements – like the excellent public transport – to access the authentic Thai culture that still thrives on street corners and down narrow alleys.It’s a city where you could explore by following your nose to endless fragrant and delicious street food treats, or float along the river in search of markets or the city’s legendary nightlife. Few other cities in Asia can match the cornucopia or delights and contrasts that have made Bangkok so justifiably popular. All we’ll say is, come hungry and come prepared to be surprised, in ways that will delight you and remain with you forever.And if you visit in mid-April, get ready to get drenched by Thais celebrating their New Year, Songkran, which they do largely by soaking each other – and tourists – with water pistols.
