This tiny town is situated in a cloud forest valley, but friendly as the locals are, they’re not the only reason to come here. Your journey here will take you through dairy farmland (well, with Costa Rica producing some of the world’s best coffee, there’s going to be a need for milk) and into the lush primary forest of the central highlands.The undoubted highlight here is a visit to the Catarata Del Toro, Costa Rica’s highest waterfall and a truly spectacular sight. Ribbons of water cascade down a sheer rock face and into an ancient volcanic crater. The hike up to the waterfall through the forest feels as though you are entering a lost world, and you’ll never forget your first sight of the falls themselves.The hummingbirds darting above your head may inspire you to try your hand at ‘flying’ on the rappel tour, but even if you’re happier with your feet on the ground, you’ll find the intense natural beauty of this spot incredibly uplifting.
